Where did you grow up? What’s the most interesting thing about your hometown?
I grew up in Milwaukee Wisconsin and have lived here my whole life. The most interesting thing about my hometown is all of the festivals that go on at the grounds by Lake Michigan. My favorite festival is called Summer Fest. I am looking forward to going to a couple nights with my friends in hopes of seeing Tee Grizzley.
What are you studying in school and why did you choose this major?
I am double majoring in Finance and Marketing. I choose these two because I am very interested in the potential career pathways for both and the possibilities of combining the two for a future job. I have a lot of interest in working in sales because I enjoy talking with people and using my words to sell them on a product or an idea. I also believe these two majors provide me with a good base knowledge of the general business world. I added in Finance in my most recent semester, so I will begin those classes in the Fall of 2025. My favorite memory from my marketing classes was working on my big self-marketing project in Marketing 300 my fall semester of my sophomore year. That project really developed my enjoyment of the creativity and strategic combo of marketing.
What interests and excites you the most about marketing?
What interests me most about marketing is the creativity aspect. I like the idea of working on each new project differently and brainstorming new angles on how to complete your goals. To elaborate on what I mean, when working on marketing campaigns there is a skeleton outline of the general basis of a marketing campaign. What I really enjoy about marketing is determining the different strengths or goals of each company and finding ways to combine and highlight those in a campaign. Personally, the two most interesting pathways in marketing are advertising and sales. I hope to have the opportunity to work in these realms someday.
Why did you choose to intern at Big Shoes Network?
I chose to work at Big Shoes Network because I liked the idea of learning more about digital marketing. I greatly value the ability that I have to learn a lot through my internship; skills that will help me further succeed in the future. I had not had a job working in business prior to this class, and I feel very lucky to as I tell people, “it feels like I’m taking a business class while getting work experience”. The opportunity to learn has been a huge factor in the enjoyment of my role. I was also intrigued by being a part of a team working on developing and expanding an existing company. I like the idea of seeing the new work that we put in pay off through increased interactions with the company.
What skills are you hoping to master by the end of your internship?
I am hoping to master skills in outreach to potential new clients, and LinkedIn skills surrounding posting and attaining the largest number of interactions and views on content as possible. I have learned new types of social media interaction such as job roundups, or event highlights posts, such as the posts I have made linked below. Social media/digital marketing is becoming more important every year with the increase of AI. Having a base knowledge on some of these tactics is something I believe this internship will grant me.
What is your current dream job?
My current dream job is to work in the sales or advertising division of a large company. I want to be a part of the team that markets and sells products on a large scale. I have always had an interest in working at Levi’s. I really enjoy the clothing that they make, especially their jeans. I believe that combining my interest in marketing and fashion would encapsulate a dream job for me. Another aspect of my dream job is the ability to move around a bit. I want to work out in the field or travel as part of my job so that I am not sitting in a tiny cubicle for 9 hours a day.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work or school? What are your favorite hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my friends, playing sports with them or cards. When not hanging out with my friends, I enjoy watching movies, and finding interesting new movies that I have not seen. One of my favorite new movies that I recently watched was Fight Club with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. My favorite genres are comedies or based on true story movies. I recently developed an enjoyment for playing video games, especially MLB the Show with my brother.
What is something interesting most people don’t know about you?
I like to write, and while I do not do much writing in my free time, I enjoy writing projects the most in school. My favorite writing project was one I did in middle school on a first-person point of view of a kernel of corn after being eaten. I also write poetry on occasion. While these occasions are rare, I like making up random rhymes in my head.
What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation?
Men’s high school basketball in 2019 and 2020. I was very interested in basketball at this time (still thought I could make it to the NBA), so I watched a lot of the best players in the nation. The team I followed the most was Jalen Green’s Prolific Prep, through the show about them on YouTube called “SUPERTEAM - Prolific Prep”. After that class graduated, I kept an eye on the Montverde Academy team led by Cade Cunnigham and Scotty Barnes. This team was incredible and while some argue they are the greatest high school basketball team ever, I believe they come in second to the Ball brother’s 2016 Chino Hills.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
The best advice ever given to me was from my mom and it was to take life one day at a time and always focus on what is in front of you. She states that this is one of her rules that shape the way she lives her life.
